The Howe Sound Music Festival is held in Squamish, B.C. for students from Lions Bay to D'Arcy. This is an adjudicated music festival where students may be selected to represent our District at the Provincial level. Out of boundary participants are welcome, but will not be eligible for awards or promotion to the Provincials. NEW THIS YEAR: Cross-boundary choirs are invited to participate! Please be aware that HSMF does not promote choirs to the Provincials. The festival will run from Monday, March 9, 2020 - Saturday, March 14, 2020.
Music Teachers use the syllabus, which outlines the various classes that are offered to the students, to select repertoire and begin preparing students for the Festival. This type of festival gives youth and adults studying private voice and piano an opportunity to perform their pieces for the adjudicator and then receive verbal and written adjudication for their performance. Choirs of all ages and sizes are also encouraged to participate and learn. Students also receive a certificate giving them a Bronze, Silver or Gold placement. This type of festival provides encouragement and insight for students preparing for their Royal Conservatory Exams.
We are thrilled to welcome Kevin Zakresky (Vocal Adjudicator), Leah Giselle Field (Vocal Adjudicator) & Yvette Rowledge (Piano Adjudicator) to our festival! Please see the 2020 Syllabus Addendum to learn more about our adjudicators.
The 2020 Syllabus is located under Rules and Regulations and the 2020 Addendum is located under Frequently Asked Questions. Both of these sections are located on the right hand side of the home page.
We are produced by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association and affiliated with the Performing Arts BC, Association of Regional Festivals.
